We have roads like that around here. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been calmly passed by Illinois State Troopers while doing 15-20 over on I-294 or 94.

It’s just the tradition and culture, I suppose. These four-lane divided roads in sparsely built-up areas are marked at 35-45 mph, but everyone drives them at 50-60, because there’s no real harm and any hazard that could show up would be visible far enough in advance to slow down and avoid it.
